30 hp tohatsu driveshaft question

I have a 30 hp tohatsu ( m30a3 ) I disassembled the lower unit to replace all seals and noticed the drive shaft has excess play ( moves up and down 1/4 ".) The pinion gear has been eating into the inside of the housing, as the shaft would ride up when in gear. Someone has replaced parts in this engine before ( did they leave out some type of spacer or washer under the pinion gear? ) Where can I get a parts diagram fo this motor? Would an owners manual have one?

thanx for the link .... tell me ... the Nissan NS50C one to download, will that be the same as the old tohatsu M50C ? .....

The Nissan NS50C is the same as the Tohatsu M50C. In the parts books the only difference would be stuff like decals or fuel tanks or anything else that would have the "nissan" name on instead of the "tohatsu" name. Don't know why Guru doesn't put all the old Tohatsu books on his website as well but I guess since they're the same it would be a lot of extra work with no real gain.
