Our outboard (~8 y.o.) dies when it is put into gear. I disconnected the shifter handle and can shift in and out of gear manually by pull/pushing the shifting rod. Also, it will run in forward or reverse if I shift but prevent the handle from moving all the way to its resting position. This leads me to believe that it is the neutral safety switch. Any idea what I should do to bypass this altogether (other than getting it repaired at cost)?
