Tohatsu lower unit question

I have a question about changing the lower unit on a mid 90's 2 stroke tohatsu 18 hp outboard. Can I simply remove a short shaft lower unit and bolt a long shaft LU on? Are there gaskets that need to be replaced each time?

All I can find locally are short shaft engines. If anyone knows where I can pick up a long shaft, 18hp 2 stroke Tohatsu/Nissan tiller outboard for a decent price please let me know.
