Honda 4 stroke 1996 8HP gas in oil

I have run this engine without any problems. But now after trolling for a while the motor blows whitish blue smoke and engine stalls. I also got black motor oil out from around breather on the carb. When motor oil was changed I noted there was possible gas in the oil or it smelt burnt. Any similar problems or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a compression test to determine the state of your rings etc.

Gas in the oil is quite common for the small 4strokes. Do a compression check, if not too bad, you might get a can of "Deep Creep" SeaFoam in a spray can and soak the top of the piston and let it soak, maybe??, freeing up a stuck ring.
Blue smoke is definately oil, but the black in the carb throat area is probalby blow back.
