2001 Honda Overheat alarm

Motor has always run well.

This past weekend after several hours of trolling, heard overheat alarm from Remote control. Didn't know it even had an audible alarm...

Immediately shut off motor and started back up. Alarm no longer present and water discharge was actually cold not hot or even warm. If engine was actually overheating would'nt motor be discharging hot water ? Engine performed fine for the rest of the day.

Should I be worried or consider it just a fluke.

u could have sucked something up
when was the last time u changed impeller and t stat

purchase 2004 honda 50 outboard--no beep or lights illuminated when key turn--engine just starts--is there supposed to be a beep sequence?
