Hello,

I am buying a new pontoon but want to keep my 1995 75 Honda off of my old pontoon. Problem is that the honda is currently a side control and the new boat has a 2003 50 hp johnson 4-stroke with a top control. Does anybody know if I can switch the outboards without changing the controls?

Thank you.

Howdy, psrome.

Welcome aboard. :)

Very unlikely that the Johnson controls, etc would work with the Honda.

I suggest that you get a Honda binnacle (top) control and transfer everything else from your old 'toon.

What are the differences from one control to another? Isn't it just forward, reverse, and trim & tilt? Also, if I do buy new or use the existing one can I use the existing cables? I am very new to this and just trying to get my bearings and know what to look for when I go to purchase.

Thanks.

The travel of the throttle and gearcase controls are surely different, the wiring harness will not match, and the control cable ends will probably not match.
