Tohatsu 40D Tilt making noise

I have a Tohatsu 40D with Power Tilt.....The tilt motor makes one of the most Horrendous noises i've heard come from a boat....

Its kinda of a grinding noise but I don't think there is any gears to be grinding in a hydrolic system.....

I come home from fishing late and hate to do it, but I have to lower my motor to get my boat to fit into the garage and I feel bad for the neighbors......Thanks for any help in advance.......Warren

You have to determine if a ram is binding.

Thanks for the info....I'll check it out first thing tomorrow....

If I use the manual tilt bypassing the motor to lower it when I get home will I be wearing anything out???

Is that override screw made to use anytime or only for emergencys?????
