Hi. Just wondering if a 1984 tohatsu 55hp lower unit will fit any other models. Thanks

It will mount up to the 50 C, 60 A and the 70 A. But the 60 and 70 have one different bearing in them....so, it wouldn't last as long....in theory.

Is this only on the same era motors? Or will it also go onto the early 90's versions of these?
Definately not onto a 90?

Re: Tohatsu lower unit interchangeabilty

As long as the model numbers match the above, they will work...regardless of year. Tohatsu has never done anything by model year, only by model number and serial number range. The only difference on those two cylinder lower units was a driveshaft bearing. I think that they eventually did away with the different bearing and they all started receiving the same lower unit. They stopped bringing that type of model into the U.S. in the early 90's, but continued to produce them for the rest of the world. It is possible that they made a later change that we have not been made aware of, but Tohatsu usually changes as little as possible.

The 90 has a different lower unit that will not bolt up.
