I usually deal with larger Yamaha engines, so please forgive the dumb questions - I have a 5hp Tohatsu on my tender - normally on the bigger engines I replace the water pump impeller every 5 years or so. Assuming this is also good practice on the Tohatsu, I bought a pump rebuild kit. Looking at the manual ahead of time, it looks like you have to knock out and discard a pin in the shift shaft to remove the lower unit. Pin doesn't come with the water pump kit so I guess I have to order that. Kinda weird construction!

Are there any other gotchas or things I should look out for in doing this job?

Thanks

The pin is supposed to be reusable...and the replacement process is as simple as it looks.
