I've found an old and battered 75 (7.5hp) in a shed clearance for 20 quids. It's been in a shed for sometime, and the exhaust holes (2) is totally gundged up. After clearing it, and some fresh unleaded later, it started without any problems-except, there are smoke coming from underneath of the engine, i.e., bottom of the exhaust pipe. I have run it for half an hour without any problems if the cover is off, but as soon as the cover is put on, the air is fouled and it dies.
Is it worth saving, and if it is, how difficult and what steps are needed to fix it?
All I want is to fix it and sell it on for a big profit as they are quite desirable.

The answer is "IF" all the bolts come out without breaking off, then it's a ez repair. BUT, if they break......
The cylinder head has to come off and the real offfending part is the three bolts that hold the exhust tube to the bottom of the head, that's where the concern would be!!

Do I have to disconnect the bottom end, or just unbolt the top bit?

How did you make out? Did you take it apart from the top down or bottom up?
I have the same engine & problem, a hole in the exhaust tube.
Would like to know the procedure to get to it.

Thanks,
