My late nineties Honda 5hp 4 stroke runs great, but recently it runs well for a while then backfires (pops) and stops. If I let it sit long enough to cool off it starts again and runs fine until it backfires again and needs to rest for a while, before restarting. It does not appear to be overheating and fuel/spark appear to be OK. Is it possibly the low oil sensor is malfunctioning when the engine warms up. The green "Oil OK" light remains on. I read that Valkyrie had a similiar problem, but I'm not sure if his backfired and stalled out or if it just wouldn't restart when warm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A tight exhaust valve comes immediatly to mind.
