Honda 45 Ignition switch

My friends Honda 45 has a bad ignition switch. I have called around and all places say that just the switch costs $100.00, can he substitute a $25 BMC/Merc switch for it?<br />Thankyou for any help.

Can't say 100% for sure, but highly unlikely you can use a substitute because the Honda switch looks to be a specialized multi-function switch. It looks to have 5 connections (not counting piggy-backed connections) and besides providing the off-on-start function also provides the push-to-choke function and ties into the warning light and buzzer. The extra cost may be worth it to get it right the first time, IMHO.
