I need to set the idle speed for my 1988 Honda BF8A. Does anyone know what that speed should be, and whether it's measured in gear or neutral? Thanks.

Re: Honda BF8A idle speed

I'd adjust it to run low & smooth but high enough to keep idling when put in gear. You need to be able to this for slow speed manouvering, forward and reverse. If it idles too low, it'll die when you put it in gear. Can't tell the factory specs, but it would have the same goal.

1200 set at idle in neutral with a shop tach.Set too low you will fowl plugs, set too high ,gearcase damage is possible.
