I was wondering about putting ATF in my lower unit instead of the 80-90W. The 80-90 seems to put a bit of drag on the gears and costs me 300RPM at top end. I know this because when I checked the oil a few months back it was empty (bought the boat used) I filled with 80-90 and had noticable loss of RMP and power. We run ATF in all kinds of gear boxes from manual transmissions to transfercases, the shear properties are good, the lubrication is good. Does anyone see any problem with doing this replacement?
