Honda 50 HP expensive change

In order to change my 1996 50 hp honda over from a handle operated to a control operated motor. I need a 100 dollar honda part and some other special 500 dollar part from honda. Honda engines won't work with just any type of control, they need their special one. Is this true or can i use my throttle/shifter i currently own.<br /><br />Thanks

Your Honda throttle and shift cable are basically formated to the Morse equation.Honda does not make it easy to switch from tiller to remote in this HP range.What you are telling us sounds about right ,but I think you might have another surprise or two.You need to talk to someone that has done this conversion previously.The more I think about it the more complicated I see it becomeing.
