I've got a 2002 TLDI md70a2 that has a 90a2 ECU/Throttle body -- one cylinder is reading 10lbs of compression so assuming a broken ring or similar. I haven't pulled the head yet, has anyone ever rebuilt one of these engines? Any reason not to rebuild? It looks like the rebuild kit is ~1k.

Well worth it. Solid design, based on the old 2-stroke carbed motors. Tear it down and inspect the damage before ordering anything. Get a Factory service manual. The TLDI motors require some specialized repair and tuning tools. The ECU tells a lot. Read out the codes before proceeding.

There are no rebuild kits from Tohatsu. The cost of the parts may be greater than the value of the engine so beware the money pit.
