Strange serial #

Hi folks. My friend has a Honda 4 stroke outboard with serial # BABJ 1103851. Apparently it doesn't exist.
The # is stamped as clear as a bell but I can't find it on any websites. Are engines from Canada or the USA etc. stamped differently? Are all Honda outboards built in Japan?
Anyway if someone can help me with this serial # I would appreciate it. Thanks, Wally

That looks like it might be a frame number not a serial number.
Best I can tell is it's a 9.9hp 2001-2002.

There might be a product number on the front of the transom bracket and the serial number might be on the right side of the block.

It's a BF9.9D2 or a BFP9.9D2

Thanks for the response guys.Now to the problem with the unit. The carburetor has an accelerator pump that is leaking badly around the seal. The dealer says I have to buy a complete carb. Does anyone know if there is a seal, aftermarket or otherwise, that will fix this problem? The carb is $300.00 and the engine is worth it of course but a $2.00 seal seems much more appealing yes? Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Wally
