After running wide open for 30 minutes or so the engine dies while wide open. It restarted easily, but ran only 10-15 sec. The oil warning light was on during that time. Oil levels are correct. When it cools it runs fine again. I'm thinking the CDI init may be the cause, perhaps it overheats? Carb is clean. Thanks for any input.

When was the last time the water pump was serviced? Check temperatures with an IR thermometer. Should be about 150F. If overheating, install a new water pump kit -- not just the impeller. If massively overheated, the oil pressure will indeed be low.

The impellor was replaced in October. The engine has been running cool, you can touch most any part immediately after running. After the shutoff incident and upon restarting, the oil pressure light stayed on its normal amount of time, but the engine died just at the point the light should have gone off. My understanding is that if oil pressure is low the engine will still run, but at significantly reduced RPMs.

Sounds like a fuel system issue. Probably a piece of trash floating around the carb bowl. Drain it and try the engine again.
