Hello! I've a 2004 4-cycle Honda OB. The kill switch will not shut the motor off...pulling the lanyard does not kill the motor, nor does pushing the button. I can start the motor without the lanyard on.

Toward the end of last season, i'd just choke it off. I meant to fix it over the winter, but...I didn't. It would be good to fix it now in my yard before it goes on the sailboat later this week!

So. My first thought is to replace the kill switch, but a Honda replacement is $50, and i'm not even sure if i can get it locally without waiting.

Given the symptoms, should replacing the switch fix the issue?

Thanks!

Test the switch for continuity first...in one position you should have continuity and the other position, no continuity.

Also check the integrity of the circuit.

Honda always liked bullet connectors. Bet one of them is no longer all the way together.
