Starter rope won't retract Tohatsu 6hp

I have a 2016 Tohatsu 6hp outboard MFS 6B. Nearly brand new, just a couple of months old. The starter rope will not retract. I pulled it out a little bit to see if that would trip something to cause it to retract, but no luck. Tried again, still no luck. Now the rope is hanging loose all the way out and will not retract at all.

Has anyone run into this or know how to fix it?

Welcome to Iboats,

Remove rope starter assy, turn it up side down, pull rope, see if pulls and retracts. If not, the internal reel spring probably may have broken at some point. If so, need to install a new one.

It's under warranty. Have your dealer fix it.
