Port engine overheated last summer. Have replaced thermostat, water pump. Just started up with ear muffs, lot of water comes out of flush port and tell tail very strong. Wondering if flush valve or spring needs replacing. Maybe cooling water goes out flush port instead of cooling engine? Any suggestions?

Salt water: Long Island Sound from NYC to Montauk. Based in CT. 26' Glacier Bay power Cat. Love the boat. Starting our 13th season. Just want to fix this 1 issue.

Doen't matter if a OB is well flushed with fresh water after use, with humdreds of hot/cold cycles over the years will accumulate thin salt layers even crusts inside all water passages which will inevitably lessen the capacity to disipate water properly while runniing inside powerhead's water passages.

Powerhead will work at a much higher temp than if having impeccable clean water passages as when OB was out of the box, changing thermo, flush valve, spring won't do a thing, waste of time and money if that issue is already happening.

If it's an OB that lives on back transom while moored which never been flushed with fresh water after use, much worse. Try flushing OB at fast idle speed with Salt Away Product on a barrel, hope product performs as stated.

Thanks, I did flush with Salt Away last fall, but not at fast idle and with muffs.

Can remove it, bolt lid back on and flush OB on a barrel with product for some time at fast idle rpm while at neutral. Flushing product on muffs works well if say Ob is new or constantly flushed after use, not suitable for OB's that might have huge salt formations inside powerhead. Those needs longer time while product recirclulates and does his job.
