Hour Meter

I had to install a new tach for my BF150 and I want to run the built-in digital hour meter up so that it matches actual engine hours, but it looks like the hour meter doesn't run with just the key turned on. All the hour meters I've ever had on boats will run with they key turned on. The digital display turns on but the time doesn't advance. This is a twin motor installation and the other motor with the original tach does the same thing. Does anyone know how to get the hour meter to advance without actually running the motor? These are OEM Honda/Faria gauges.

Does the hour meter run when the motor is running? The meters are smarter now and only count running time the way it should be.

I'm guessing that this is the kind that runs off the tach pulses, so it is only counting then the engine is running.

Perhaps hooking up to your car for a couple days?

Trying to match the hours on the old one is going to take that many hours. Easiest thing is to mark the back with the original hours and make an entry in a log book if you have one.
