Hi.I need workshop manual for Tohatsu 3.5 hp 4 stoke.
The same motor is branded as Mariner, Mercury, Evinrude.

You'll have to buy those, are not available on line, will need to be ordered through a Tohatsu dealer.

Don't bother with an aftermarket manual. Get the Factory service manual. I assume your model is MFS3.5A.

Float level is correct when float is parallel to casting when held inverted. Jets are not adjustable.

iIf it's adjustable you set it where it runs the best, there is no exact number of turns. Check it before you play with it so you can return to that place if you mess it up.

No. If you want a different mixture, you must install a different jet.
It is possible to change pilot screw adjustment, but they are set by instrument at the factory, so they are already correct. If you want access to the pilot screw, you must drill out the brass plug that covers it, which is in violation of federal law. Then you would need a very good ear, have the motor on the boat (not just in a barrel), and have a very good shop tach... and know what you are doing.

The only adjustable screw on those is the ralenti/idle rpm vertical screw.. As Paul states knowingly all others are factory fixed or sealed.

One issue that find weird, all OB's comes factory tested with carbs well adjusted to their altitude, weather and temp conditions. Sometimes mixture screw will need to de adjusted when OB finally reaches water to runs better and even at idle. So what's the purpose of having a sealed mixture screw if OB will be sold worldwide. Those EPA restrictions are only for USA ?

We drill out the plug and adjust the screw whenever it's required, yes by law this isn't supposed to be done, but it's easy and can make a huge improvement.

New small 4 stroke motors are set as lean as possible when being built, this can result in hard starting and them being very cold blooded, even a poor idle on some.

If you take it back to the dealer they will clean the carb, if this doesn't work they need to replace the carb because they can't legally adjust it, after they put the new carb on it still may not run better, so they'll put on another carb. All this hoping they get a carb set a little richer.


Adjusting the screw is very easy, and was normal prior to 1998 when by law they sealed over the screw with the brass plug.

That's the one that's supposed to be sealed with a brass plug so you can't finger it by law. The other one is fully adjustable to adjust idle rpm to factory specs. Why do you want, need to adjust mixture screw ?
