10w-30 vs 25w-40

wanted to pick up 30me 4 stroke oil for my 30 hp efi tohatsu 4 stroke. the fella in the parts room reccommended 25w-40. it is awfully hot in GA. water temps in high 80s. any opinions? which would u use? same price, mercury branded

I'm sure the guy behind the counter knows a lot more than the Factory about the oil needed for this motor.

I'd put in exactly what the manual calls for; nothing else.

Call Tohatsu and ask them which grade oil to use in hot environments...

Page 10 of the owners manual lists Type FC-W, SAE 10w-30 or 10w-40. We prefer non-synthetic oil.
