I have a 9.8 Hp Nissan (Tohatsu), 4-stroke, electric start on my sailboat. We recently took it off to have it serviced. A guy who was helping me remove the connections from the battery, while I was disconnecting the battery. I now have the motor back on the boat, but I am not sure where to connect the battery leads. The positive connection is pretty obvious (there is a red cover there). But, I am uncertain where the proper ground (negative) connection should go.

That OB should have a black negative cable besides red positive one. Must be connected to battery negative terminal. First connect positive lead, then negative. It's the inverse when removing bat.

Do you mean the connections on the motor if you do the positive (red) goes to one side of the starter solenoid opposite the starter cable.. The negative (black) should go to the block near there.
