50hp force year help

I recently bought a 1979 sylvan aluminum boat with a 50hp force outboard. I found the tag on the transom mount but it was missing a couple numbers. I don't know anything about these outboards but I believe it is new enough for it to have been part of the mercury side of force. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The model number is 50???2C the middle of the model number is missing.

Normally the 2 in the model number would indicate a 1992 model, BUT....
1992 was the year they started using the Mercury serial number to id the year.

Are you sure it is a 2 ?

Photos of the sides of the powerhead with the cowl off would help.

We need to see both sides, showing the complete ignition board, and the fuel pump.

Lacking any photos, can you id and describe the ignition type? cd module? switchbox? color of coils ?

Fuel pump square? or 2 stage oval ?

If it was a 1982, it would be model 507B2B or 507H2B, only 6 characters. The A B C extensions came later in the 80's.


could be a very early 1992 model before they switched over to serial numbers.
