Hey guys,

So my steering has siezed on my 1995 mercury force 120. For me to remove the teleflex cable I have to remove the engine off the transom. Boat is a 1995 bayliner 1702 ls.

I live in New Zealand and have searched high and low for a lifting eye. I can't find one anywhere. Can't even get somewhere to lend me one.

What's my next best option? Wrapping rope / tow rope around the base of the powerhead?

Thanks

Hayden

Wrapping rope is the least desirable option and a last resort. I don't remember on those years but there may be three tapped holes in the center of the flywheel. If so, fabricate a lifting eye from some plate and three 5/16 bolts. If there are not three tapped holes and you can not find the Mercury lifting tool, then remove the flywheel not and fabricate the lifting eye using a nut with some sort of eye welded to it.

Are you certain you can not rent a lifting tool from the local Mercury dealer? That would be the easiest and safest option.

No Title

Top of the flywheel.
There are 3 holes drilled in there.1/4-20 or the next size up.
These are American Standard threads.
I use an L-bracket. Get a heavy one.
The 1/4-20 is strong enough to lift your motor.

I had to put a picture in the post. The forum wouldn't let me unless I did.???
So I put in fish pics!!
