This looks like the tilt release lever (for those old units without power Tilt and Trim). There is a plastic pointed knob used to do the turning, i.e. releasing and locking the motor in tilted position. It is also used for "reverse" lock so the motor doesn't jump out of the water when going in reverse.

No Title

They were made with cheap plastic.
Invariably they would get gas/oil on them and eventually break.
They are connected to a rod and a flapper on the other end and a spring.
The plastic lever is part of a rod and bushing affair.
Make sure they are there too.
In the pic #s 56through 61 and #s35/36/37/39/40 and maybe a part or 2 that I didn't mention.

I agree with Jerry that if it is made of cheap plastic, you'd be better off making your own from steel, brass or aluminum. I would surmise it will look like the knob lock on the cowling located at the back (on my 125's anyway) that is if you have not installed a power T&T yet.

If you have power T&T, you should remove the manual reverse lock mechanism. It's not needed, and you don't want it engaging and preventing the T&T from functioning or even damaging it.

If it's not in the way??? Just leave it.
Who ever put t/t had to remove all the other stuff cause it would get in the way.
I never saw a 125 without t/t.
Makes me wonder who put the motor together.

I agree on all points. I was just concerned that the lower part of the mechanism is still in place and could lock the motor in place.
