I hanged the new to me 1986 Force 125 on my boat last night. I need the tilt raised up so I wired that portion this evening and it did not work. PO must have been monkeying with it because the bolts that hold it together were loose. I tried to get them started and in the end the whole motor came apart.

It is filled with oil and grease so I will be cleaning it out tomorrow. I've seen the insides of a starter before and everything inside mine looks serviceable if I can get the brushes into position.

How do I put this thing back together?

Look up the parts diagram on boats . net
The unit must have NO oil or residue from any oil in the electric motor.
The pump uses 30wt.
Fill it while the motor is in the down position.
Adding oil to the pump while it's up will eventually push oil back up into the electric motor.
I use an old oil squirt can.
I use electrical tape to hold the brushes in place, then when the armature gets in place I pull it out.
Sometime cutting the tape in half works.
