1994 Force 120 trim and tilt not working correct. Looks like the hydraulic lines (4) themselves corroded or just went bad somehow and they leak. Are those available to replace?
Like Jerry said, I've never seen the lines themselves go bad. Usually someone has cross threaded the holes in the Tilt/Trim pump valve body where the hydraulic lines thread in to causing a leak.
So here it is. An upside down pic of the one trim/tilt hydraulic line disconnected. What is missing? It looks like there is 4 threaded holes and only one line. BTW, the pump/motor does run when the switch is moved up or down.
WOW! You're missing 3 of the 4 hydraulic lines. They are no longer available new. Your only choice is to make your own or purchase used from the auction sites. I believe that this is what it's supposed to look like.
Thanks. But if I do somehow replace them with ones that work that are installed correctly with no leaks and the fact that the pump/motor seems to sound like its working, after filling the system with the correct hydraulic fluid, the tilt/.trim should work. Correct? Do the actual pistons that lift the outboard ever go bad?
The lines in the pic are for the later model pump.
You could get brake lines and try to bend them into shape.
Looks like the one he needs is for the older style.
I will look and see if I have any.
Thanks! I'm likely going to buy this boat. The trim/tilt appears to be the only thing wrong with the boat. Question: I've had 3 previous boats that either had good working trim/tilt or one 1981 evinrude 90HP OB that had no power tilt/trim where I had to manually lift motor. Question is...to get this boat home, can I somehow manually get it up in the trailering position and keep it there? It's about a 50 mile trip home.
Might try this as a temporary solution. Maybe a 2 X 4 located similar to pipe in this picture to hold it up. Make sure you secure the 2 X 4 so it doesn't fall out if the motor bounces up.
So I put some money down on this boat after running the 1994 Force 120 OB. It started right up, spit water out of the water pump "pee' hole and shifted into gear smoothly in forward and reverse. Since there is no temp guage on the dash, does a '94 Force 120 OB have a buzzer/alarm in case of overheating like my 1981 Evinrude 90HP OB had?
There is a picture of a 120HP head with the thermal switch located on the head with the wire that goes to a buzzer usually mounted under the dash. Don't know if the rig you're looking at has a buzzer though.
If it has a Force it usually has a buzzer(round black thingy) under the dash.
Turn key on, follow the temp sender lead to the connector block.
Ground out the orange lead and the buzzer should sound off.
Nice looking! A little work on the Tilt/Trim you should be all set. If you haven't already done so, check the compression. I should have mentioned that earlier..
What device/tool do I use to check compression? I've never done that on any of the other 3 boats i bought. I guess ive been lucky and all had good motors/engines.
