Erratic Tachometer

Just changed starter and solenoid on a 1996 Force 75 hp outboard. The tachometer has become erratic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming it was working right prior to the repair work, it sounds like you knocked something loose. Check all related connections at the motor.

The tach gets its input signal from the stator output which are the same wires as the input wires for the voltage regulator/rectifier. Check to make sure the rectifier/regulator is still working by reading output (DC) and input (AC) voltages and the grey or purple wire is not loose.
