Just changed the impeller. Big problem, reverse is now forward and forward is now reverse! I have neutral so the engine will start. The shift lever descends in reverse, not forward. I can connect the shift rod to the lower unit only in reverse. In forward the shift rod is not down enough to make connection. I ran the motor on ear muffs. When I put the engine in forward the prop turns counterclockwise and in reverse the prop turns clockwise. Don't know how to correct. Please help. Sullmate

Here is a follow up. I was able to put the lower unit into neutral. I was also able to hook up the shift rod from the engine to the lower unit. Before tightening down the 4 bolts that tie the lower unit to the engine, I shifted the lever on the engine into neutral. I then tightened the bolts and the gears work correctly. One minor problem, there is a ratcheting sound when I go to start the engine in neutral. There is a cog which is contacting the flywheel slightly. Not sure how to adjust this cog.
