I have a 1995 force 40hp with a bad cylinder. Would like to change the power head with a 1992-94 power head. I have been told that the adapter plates are different. I have both adapter/spacer plates for both power heads. Is it possible to make this change and if possible what adapter/spacer plate would be used? Any info will be appreciated along with any other problems I may encounter with this swap. Thanks

Re: Force power head swap

You may not be able to do this swap. Your 95 has a Mercury lower unit and the drive shaft is probably splined differently than the earlier model engine. Although the block is the same and will bolt to the adapter, the crankshaft would be splined differently. You would need to swap crankshafts. If you are going to that trouble, might just as well over bore the bad cylinder and put in an oversized piston.

If you already have the replacement block, count the splines in the crankshaft and count the splines on the old 40 driveshaft. If they match, the swap is easily do-able
