1997 Force 40 HP charging

Hello There,

I recently bought a boat with a 40hp Force. I'm wondering if the motor recharges the battery as it runs?

It should.
Get a volt meter or someway to measure voltage.
Check voltage when it's off.
Then as it runs see if it changes.
Slow operation won't always charge the battery, sometimes it needs to be run faster than an idle.

All you need to do is connect the volt meter to the battery terminals and check the reading when not running.
Then check at about half throttle. It should be above 14 if it is charging.

Thanks everyone, it was about 12 before starting and went up to 15 at a fast idle.
