I have a 1987 85 HP Force Outboard with a F5H130-1 REMOTE CONTROL - SURFACE MOUNT. I am looking for a replacement Neutral Detent Ring that mounts behind the throttle/gear shift lever. It is made of black plastic and has broken. I have attached pictures for reference. I could not find a parts break down for this Remote Assembly. If someone could provide a P/N or point me in the right direction to order a replacement I would greatly appreciate it.

That's a US Marine shifter.
Not sure who made it.(someone else have an idea?)
Maybe try Teleflex or look for a replacement.
The Chrysler shifter will work as a direct replacement. The parts won't interchange but the whole unit will.
You figure out what caused the break?
Shifting without lifting or not lifting enough on the release lever on the handle.
251305516064 on e-bay There are a couple of other pieces of crap listed be careful.

Re: Force Side Mount Remote Control Parts

This engine was given to my son and it has been sitting up for a while. He pulled it off a Bayliner bass boat and was going to use it on his Southern Skimmer until he came across a 90 HP Evinrude with T&T. I am getting it ready to sell and I would not want to sell a motor with controls when the throttle will lock into a neutral detent at WOT. A safety concern. This ring is made of plastic and did not take much to bust it with someone handling to leaver in a rough manor.

I have replaced the water pump impeller and cleaned the carbs. It fired right up this weekend and runs really good. Other then not having T&T is will make someone a good motor. It is in good shape and has seen little use.

I'll search around for US Marine and Teleflex parts and maybe I'll get lucky. Or I my try to fix it some how. Anyway, thanks for the responses!

foodfisher,

I did a parts search on ********** and go this return info: Mercury Marine 17021 CLUTCH GEAR $0.70 NLA Looks like it is no longer available. Anybody know of any old Force/Chrysler dealerships that may have some NOS?

Thanks again, Tom

Re: Force Side Mount Remote Control Parts

Well, I contacted multiple dealers today and this item is no longer available and no one had it in stock. I searched around the garage and I found a 1 1/4" threaded PVC coupling. The thread end fit just right into the inside of the assembly. It also had a raised section on the bottom of the threads. I cut the collar off the coupling and pressed the threaded end into the assemble. The raised section fit into the detent at the WOT position. Reassembled the throttle and it worked good. It is not as smooth as I would like, but it works and the price was right. Now the throttle will not lock in the WOT position.

Don't know of any WOT locks. Doesn't sound safe to me.

Re: Force Side Mount Remote Control Parts

The "aluminum plate" that the plastic "Clutch Gear" mounts onto has four neutral detents 90 degrees apart. The "Clutch Gear" has one neutral detent and three fillers positioned 90, 180 & 270 degrees from the neutral detent. It appears that the control assembly can be mounted so the control cables can exit aft (my configuration), down, forward & up. The "Clutch Gear" can then be positioned with the neutral detent positioned up and the throttle leaver positioned up while in neutral.

In the situation that I had, the filler on the "clutch gear" that is positioned 90 degrees forward of neutral position was broken and missing. Because of that the throttle leaver's "spring loaded" neutral pin would drop into the detent on the "aluminum plate". The PVC fitting that I cut and placed in the "aluminum plate" filled that detent position.

Now the throttle leaver's spring "loaded neutral" pin does not drop into the detent at WOT.
