1989 85hp Force charging question.

I have an 89' force 85hp motor that with nothing turned on, mostly charges at 13.1V but every now and then I notice that it spikes up to 16V. Is this normal or should I be testing my stator?

Sounds pretty normal to me considering there is no regulator on these units. Anyways, try verifying the input voltage from the rectifier to see if it is also spiking. Make sure you are reading directly from the rectifier and not from an installed voltmeter.
