With Jerry's help, I finally bolted my new, used, Force 35 on my Bayliner.

One slight problem now and that is the controls.

I am using the Force 50 controls with the Force 35. I thought they were exactly the same but they're not. Go figure.

The Force 50 has the following control wiring on the motor, in order from top to bottom:

* Start - yellow
* Generator - purple
* Tachometer - white
* Choke - green
* Overheat - orange
* Battery (+) - red
* Ignition - blue
* Negative - black

The Force 35 has the following control wiring on the motor, in order from top to bottom:
* Start - yellow
* Tachometer - purple
* Stop - white
* Choke - green
* Overheat - orange
* Positive(+) - red
* Stop 2 - blue
* Ground - black

I am using the wiring for the Force 50 on the Force 35 motor and the one obvious difference is the tachometer, which is white on the Force 50 but purple on the Force 35.

This is my wiring using Force 50 color wires to Force 35 block. The colors are Force 50 colors and the functions are Force 35.
* Start - yellow
* Tachometer - white
* Stop - purple
* Choke - green
* Overheat - orange
* Positive(+) - red
* Stop 2 - blue
* Ground - black

This caused a short somewhere so the breaker goes off. I removed the Ignition (blue) and the Stop (purple), and the short is gone, but the engine won't fire. It will crank, but won't start.

attached is the picture of the Force 35 wiring block and wiring to the block is from the Force 50 controls.

Re: Please Help wire Force 35 using Force 50 Controls

The Force 50 seems to have a battery ign.system. The blue wire feeds the ig.coils with 12V from battery. The bluewire is connected to I at keyswitch.
The Force 35 seems to have self generating mag. CDI ign. The blue and purple are the stopcircuit.

You may have fried the CDI box putting 12V at stopcircuit.

At CDI ign.system the stopwires blue and white in harness goes to the two M terminal at keyswitch and at terminalstrip on engine, one of the purple and black are connected to engineground.

M terminal at keyswitch shorted to each other in STOP position.

I think the CDI box is ok.

I got real worried after your reply and went down and wired it with the original Force 35 controls.

It took a few minutes and I had to squirt some gas into the carb to fire it up but it did run.

I have to get new gas before I'll try it again.

I guess my question is whether or not it's possible to use the Force 50 wiring controls with the Force 35 motor.

The attached picture is the original wiring for the Force 35 with its controls.

I crawled under the dash to see the switch and everything else.

Purple and Blue seems to connect to 'I' at key switch.
The two 'M' at the key switch for mine seems to be empty

I did not get a chance to remove the Force 35 key switch. However, I did take a picture of it.

It appears that on the Force 35, the purple, black, and orange are not connected.

Those are labeled as tachometer, stop, and overheat.

The tach and overheat are probably separate pieces for under the dash. I guess that makes sense that it isn't attached. Not sure why the black for stop, isn't attached.

Re: Please Help wire Force 35 using Force 50 Controls

I could not get the key switch removed from the Force 35. How do you remove the shift lever?

Anyways, I was able to see how the key switch is wire.

Start - Yellow, goes to 'S'
Choke - Green, goes to 'C'
Positive (Red) & Stop 2 (Blue) goes to 'M'
Stop - White, goes to 'M'.

There are two 'M's on this switch.

There's also a terminal 'A' at the switch but nothing from the control wire connects there and the red stripe connect there is left open.

I think my crude drawing shows what it is.

If you look at my previous reply with the photo of the control, you can see the three wires connected to the switch, top one is green, middle is yellow (shroud is white), and bottom is white.

Re: Please Help wire Force 35 using Force 50 Controls

Hi Nordin,

I PM you my email address.

On the same subject.

I took the switch out of the Force 35 and examined the wiring. And I re-examined the Force 50 switch.

I'm not sure of the exact connection in the switch, but they should be similar since it did crank when I initially wired it. I also checked for spark and it was nice and bright. I'm including a crude drawing of the two switches for comparison. With the exception of the way the shutoff is wired, the others seems to be the same.

On the Force 35, the shutoff is wired with the blue and white.
On the Force 50, the shutoff is wired with just the blue.

To make the key switch on the Force 50 work with the Force 35 wiring, could I move the Blue to the top M post and the white to the bottom post of the Force 50 switch, then connect those to the shutoff rocker switch?

It works.

I did what I wrote last time and was able to start and run it.

I'm attaching my rewiring in case someone is attempting this, too.

Thank you for all your help.

Now I need to replace the water pump impeller.
