82 should be a 4 cylinder Chrysler. However, the fuel pumps were all the same until Mercury changed them on the late Force engines.
It is a two stage pump with three button valves, a diaphragm, and a gasket. Fuel inlet is through the black plastic cap/screen. fuel outlet is a nipple at the tall second stage. Primary stage uses pulses from the cylinder to which it is attached, through a hole drilled in the bypass cover. Second stage uses pulses from the bottom cylinder through a short black hose.
Positive and negative pulses move the diaphragm back and forth to suck and push fuel. Button valves stop backflow and keep fuel flowing in the correct direction. Fuel flows to the bottom carb and through a tee fitting to the top carb(s).
