Re: Flywheel Torque Specs 6hp Chrysler 1978

Thanks for the info JJ! Can you or anyone confirm the 17 or 40 ft lbs on the flywheel?s torque (I saw in my Clymer Manuel)? With a straight edge 40 ft lbs looks closer (aligned in the manual) and sounds better.

""Big Jay, I would suggest this is confirmed before testing vs causing another problem.""

As little as 17 could cause a problem or damage if it should be 40.

Re: Flywheel Torque Specs 6hp Chrysler 1978

I've been looking around at similar hp engine threads here on iboats and they all seem to be between 40 and 50ish ft lb's on the flywheel nut.

But that's all the info I got.

I've managed to torque it to 42ish ft lb's but barely. Nothing to hold the flywheel with...

Does anyone have an idea on the torque value on the flywheel nut for this unit?

Unfortunately, the only manual I have is for the Force 84-99. And the only HP rating even close to yours is the 7.5HP which requires a 40-ft-lbs for the flywheel nut. The other one is the 3.5HP which is 17 ft-lbs. If you were able to torque it to 42 ft lbs I believe you are good to go. Just make sure to double check it after running it for a day at WOT speed.
