Can someone please explain how the Primer System works on a 1990 150 hp outboard with 3 carbs? Where does it get the fuel from, the top carb bowl?carbs.jpg

Re: Force Primer System

Anyone?? I need to know how it works so I know if my solenoid is bad or what. IT clicks when I apply 12 volts to it but how do I know it's working?

Re: Force Primer System

Yes, it is fed from the top carb bowl.

The pressure is from the primer bulb in the fuel line that you squeeze before you try to start the engine. This should fill the carb bowls, and supply gas to the enrichment (primer) valve.

Enrichment valve only dumps gas while the key is being held in.

To test, pump up the fuel hose primer, remove the output hose from the valve, turn the key to on, and push the key in.

Gas should flow out the hose.

What is your starting issue?
Is this a new problem?
Did it start easier in the past?

Re: Force Primer System

I just inherited the boat. Always had an electric choke button on previous boats. Thanks for the info about pushing in the key!! Works like a charm when you know what the hell you're doing!! Haha!! Thanks!! I love This Forum!!!!!!!
