Can a older chrysler 9.9hp engine be wired to charge the battery I use for my electric trolling motor and fish finder? If so does anyone have a wiring schematic to show me how to do this and what parts I need to add to the engine.

Re: Charging battery on Chrysler 9.9hp

Chrysler did make an electric start 9.9, 10, and 20 Hp engine called "Autoelectric." It used the starting motor as a generator while the engine was running.

The starter sat on top of the engine and was pressed onto a special extension of the crankshaft. You can not retro-fit a 9.9 to this system.

Also, the charging rate was low-- it was designed to recharge the starting battery and power a small light in the cover (for night fishing). Do not expect to be able to recharge a trolling deep cycle battery while running to and from the fishing areas.

Re: Charging battery on Chrysler 9.9hp

When I lived in Mi. we used the trolling motor a lot.
On my friends boat,I hooked it up to the running lights on the truck.
I put in 2 switches and it powered the battery for the winch.
The second put power to the trolling motor battery.
We were about an hour away from Saginaw Bay and it would help charge both.
The 9.9 won't work, Franks right.
Duubfab, start another thread and include the model, serial and yerar.
