help!!! prop turns in gear

Have a 1983 85 hp force. Was on the river last week cruising along heard a loud noise and was dead in the water. the motor was running but prop was not turning. Well after I got towed to land and put it back on the trailer put shifter in gear and can spin the prop.Im no boat mechanic but my guess is the shaft is either broke or i spun something? any help ? can I find parts to fix it? Is it worth fixing? IT is a 1983

Gotta make sure the prop hub isin't spun.
Remove it and mark a line on the hub.
Reinstall and go for a ride.See if it spins again.
Then check the line.
If you can spin it by hand it's probably broken something inside.
Try taking it apart.

Drain the oil in the drive and check for metal shavings and chunks.

If it runs good you can get a lower unit.Lot easier than changing motors.
