When first starting the motor for the day of fishing you do not have to choke the engine If I do choke the engine it will flood. I have never had an outboard that you did not have to choke. Well I put the engine in neutral with accelration to start it and immediately when it starts I back off the throttle and let it warm up and then shift and the engine bogs but does keep running. The engine while accelerating the engine bogs, but does not die it will smooth out again. It does not run 100% smooth. There is a slight non smooth running of the engine at different accelerations. When I stop to fish I have to start the engine in the same manner as I do when I first get on the water. I appreciate any help in this matter.

Re: 40 HP Force Different Problems

I answered your questions in the other forum and you didn't respond to my questions.
Still need to know what year were working on??

I'll post this again>

((To tell the year, should be a sticker on the transom clamp.
If it's a Blue Force they started making the 40 in 1992
Post that info and someone will be able to tell the year.
Before you do anything do a compression/spark test.
That ok do the rest.
New carb, depending on the year it probably isin't available.
And you probably don't need it.
Set the carb yourself.
Take it off and clean it.
Then while it's off look at the reeds.Any cracked or broken, replace.
The air screw(screw on the front top).
Or the side(screw with spring)
Turn it in to the bottom GENTLY!!!
Then out 1 turn.
Then in the water motor warm,in gear.
Motor running, turn screw in till it coughs, bucks, misses or stalls.
Then out 1/2 turn. ))

I'll add this the enricher or choke is probably bad and the diaphram in the unit is ruptured and need to be replaced???
Pinch off the hose from the choke to the carb and see if that makes a difference???
