Hello all, ive havd my 84 capri bayliner for a few years now and i love the boat but it just doesnt have enough to pull a a big tube around or if we have a few people in the boat performance suffers greatly. My friend bought a 93 bayliner capri with a force 150 and it came with two complete spare engines. Since both boats are bayliner capris and both are using force motors can the 150 swap right in without any major modifications? All the mounting points look identical i didnt measure them though. I searched for a while but didnt come across a thread that had any information.

Depending on the year of the 150's they might work.
The mounting bolts should be the same and if it's an early 150 the electrics might match.
Just make sure the shafts are the same length.
I believe they come in a 20 and a 25.

Just make sure your transom is rated to hold the weight of a 150HP motor. There should be a sticker on your boat that shows the maximum number of people, max weight and maximum horsepower. The max horsepower is partially based on whether or not your transom can handle the stress of a bigger motor.

Bayliners are rated low! Chances are that if your hull came with an 85 it will only be rated for 85-90 ponies. While the 150 will most likely bolt up to your transom, unless you want to do some major reinforcement modifications and still be possibly illegal in your state, buy a bigger boat for the 150-- besides, you won't like the gas you will put through the larger engine.

Hmm. I def dont want to get into any crazy modifications to make it work, if its just some basic work thats not an issue. The 150 is way more than what i would need but ya cant beat it if its free. Is there a thread that has any information on how to strenghten the transome so i xan get an idea of how indepth something like that would be?

Here are a couple of transoms I reinforced. You can do it slow, fast, or half-fast.

The fact still remains that if you mount the 150--free or not-- you are setting yourself up to be stopped by water police and at least issued a citation for overpowering. Before you do anything you really need to read the capacity plate on your Bayliner AND research the capaity laws in your state.

AND: Did I mention the significant weight difference? The 150 is a LOT heavier than the 85.
