1984 2 stroke force...will not completly turn over

Took the boat out and the motor fired up for seconds then stopped. I have spark but it still will not stay running. I have not changed the spark plugs in 2 years so wondering if that still could be a possibility. Also wondering if it could be bad gas. My family is leaving for a fishing vacation in 5 days and need help. Thank you

2 yr. old gas? Now there's a possible malfunction. Try a seperate supply w/fresh gas/oil supply.

I had a half tank left over from last year in a 6 gallon tank and filled it up. Thank you for the reply I will try that. Should I buy a new tank?

Try cleaning the carb.Then check the fuel pump diaphram.
Does it start and then die or just misses???
More info???
1984 2 stroke.That covers about 100-200 different motors??

The motor is a 1984 50HP force 2 stroke. Not sure of the ser# but can get that when I go home for lunch. The motor will start briefly, then once you try to put it in gear if dies. Thank you for your reply
