I have a 1987 Force 9.9 and it's running pretty well with the occasional cough. I figured I'd start off with new plugs.

This site:
http://www.go2marine.com/docs/mfr/champion/champion-t3.shtml

Calls for L87YC, but I found an RL82C in the outboard.

From what I read online:
- The L is the size, same on both
- C is a copper core, same on both
- Y is "Standard Projected Nose Cone"
- 82 vs 87 is the heat range.
- R at the beginning, racing???

Aside from "this is the closest they could find", is there any reason why one would sunstitute a slightly cooler, non-racing plug without a projected nose cone in the outboard?

Re: Force 9.9 spark plug

RL-82 or SPARK PLUG (NGK # B6HS) Try these.
Need the model# and serial#
You'd be surprised how many different plugs were suggested for this motor.I've found about 4-6 variations
4-6 different #s depending on serial# The block and heads a bunch of changes.

R means resistor plug.

Re: Force 9.9 spark plug

Sorry I didn't read the first post right!!
The plug in it was?? Just replace it.
The cough is probably the carb.
Start motor.
Air screw in till it coughs, bucks kick or stalls.
Then out 1/2 turn.
This should take care of it.
