starter for 120hp 1998 force

my starter started smoking and will not turn my motor over brand batt,i removed the started it was very hot. the bendix does engage do i have to replace the starter or do you have a rebuild kit? do i have to replace the solenoid too please advise thanks whats my cheapest route as i am selling this boat what is the oem ?

If the armature is bad, then you most likely will have to replace it, or have it rebuilt. Only "rebuilt" kit I've seen are basically the end cap assy. with the brushes. You do not have to replace the solenoid (unless it's bad). If you are mechanically inclined, I'd take it apart and clean it up to see if that helps. If the brushes are shot, iBoats has them and also the repair kit that consists of the end cap w/brushes.

Tear it apart and see what happened.
Post some pics.
Low compression will make a starter work harder.
