Some of you will have seen the pump re lined with aluminium ring ...This is Mk 2 a stainless /PTFE/stainless sandwitch..You need PTFE sheet 15 mm thick ( 0.6 in) minimum and two stainless pump plates...The hole for the impeller is 2.1 dia x 0.6 in deep Proceedure is this ....some photos in next post as max is 5...(applies to 25/30 HP model change sizes for other models)

1/Cut original housing about 10mm from the base ..you need this for a template to mark the PTFE
2 / Turn or file and face off on a flat surface the top part of the pump . You can see how deep the corrosion goes but the lines will help align the parts later...
3/ Use the cut off bottom of the pump to mark the required 2 1/10 in hole on the PTFE. Find the holes centre and cut through the 2.1 in hole on a lathe with a 4 jaw chuck
4/ Glue .(.thats a joke nothing sticks to PTFE well wet contact adhesive will a bit) so Glue the top of the old pump to the PTFE block aligning the parts and drill through the 4 mounting holes .NOTE the hole in the housing is not central .its about 1/10 in off centre so ignore that and the 4 mounting holes are not at the corners of a square ..the off centre shaft hole makes the pump work.
5/ Mill ..well put a router bit in the drill press and by hand make the water outlet passage.
6/ Drill the top stainless plate for the water outlet ( 8mm)
7/ Assemble with a paper gasket between the stainless top plate and the aluminium.
8/ as pump is slighty higher/thicker check the engine water pipe does not enter the pump too deeply ....

Pumps good will let you know if it lasts ...wont corrode and PTFE is one of the slippyest things on the planet ....as in teflon on your pan ....!!!!

Nice piece of machine work--wish I had a lathe, or at least a Bridgeport. There is so much that can be improved on these engines.

Hmm! Rubber on teflon--I wonder if it can be run dry! Just imagine: No more need for muffs or a barrel and no water running all over the driveway.

One caveate: Remind people not to tighten too much on the mounting bolts or the aluminum top will bend or break.

mmmm great to have a response from a real expert ..I was hoping for a list of stainles force units that would fit the Chrysler...lathe only about $800 and I am no expert on it. its a Chinese 9x20 ...I dont want the rubber to run dry on the PTFE but the demise of most old outboards must be weak pump ..take out the thermosat...still not good ...over heats ...throw the motor ...you would not beleive ( well YOU would ) the state of impellers I have taken out ....Will let you know how it wares ...winter here ..not good for boating ...thanks for your support
