I just got a replacement head gasket for my
1991 Force 120 hp the old one had pieces missing from it and the inner rings were broken.
The new gasket does not have the slots in it, but looking on the head manifold there is no place for anything to go....
So my question is , can I use this one as is, or should I cut the slots in it?
What is the purpose for the slots ?
Thanks

Use it as-is It should not cause any problems. The purpose of the original "slots" was to help prevent water from remaining behind the gasket during non running times, corroding the head. If it is an aftermarket gasket, the replacement is made cheaper. It takes time and money to add the knives to the die cutter to punch out the slots, so the manufacturer just didn't do it.
