Hi There,

I have researched the forums intensively and didn't find what I was looking for.
Can anybody post "under the cowl" photo of tilt and trim (2 wire) wiring please?
Like where do solenoids, wires and breaker are positioned and what are they attached to?

Thanks, thanks, thanks!!

1985 systems were directly wired to the switch. they did not use solenoids or relays.

standing inside the boat there are some threaded holes on the bottom of the engine pan underneath the carbs and to the right. the relay tabs are bolted down into those holes. The wiring harness is techincally loose but the relays have a firm enough grip on the sockets to secure the wiring. On the right side of the pan across from the starter there are two holes used to secure the circuit breaker. Fat postive runs from battery post on starter solenoid to circuit breaker and from circuit breaker to relay socket. Fat negative runs to a solid and corrosion free engine block bolt - usually same as starter. switch is connected via two skinny wires usually with 0.15 dia bullet type quick connects. trim motor usually wires directly into relay socket with a locking spade terminal. The terminal is removed by using a jewelers screwdriver into face of socket and pushing down the locking tab. A better method is to install a 6" lead into relay and use 0.18dia bullet type quick connects to trim motor. You can find this setup on 92-94 engines. It allows you to disconnect trim motor without taking apart relay wiring.

OK, as they say, "Good description is worth thousand pictures". Thank you RRitt, your description was very helpful, and I was able to connect everything properly.
But, since I was looking for pictures and didn't find them, I have decided to photograph the whole process and post the photos for the future use on the forum.

Here we go:
This is what I had at the beginning

I have bought a used tilt and trim setup and it came with to relays and a circuit breaker. The first challenge was how to bring this "bunch" under the cowl. Following RRitt's instructions I found holes on the bottom of the engine pan underneath the carbs.

Short from splicing the wires I didn't see any other way to bring the relays and circuit breaker in:

It worked fine.
Next, I found these two threaded holes to the front left side , just left of the carbs (looking from the back):

Got some machine screws of the same thread and fit two relays perfectly:

Next I fount these two holes (same thread) next to starter solenoid:

and placed the circuit breaker there:

see the next post for picture

Than I connected red wire to the starter solenoid front bolt and the two black wires to the starter ground bolt.

My motor came already wired for the trim motor:

(see the next post for picture)

and that was the easy part.

Than I looked under the instrument panel and both wires were connected to fuses. Took them both of fuses, connected them to top and bottom terminal of a simple stupid switch: (see the next post for picture)

I brought the plus from the fuse to the middle terminal and : VOILA! UP AND DOWN, UP AND DOWN...

Hope it helps a lot of people!!
